The cross-backend cases (incremental-on-new-after-full-on-old, mixed-chain restore/delete) can\u0027t work until that groundwork is built, and the proxy alternative was rejected at the Dalmatian PTG. If you want this to continue, please move it into the current spec directory (specs/2026.2/) and flesh out the skeleton sections — the data model, REST API, and how it builds on (or implements) backup-backends-configuration — ideally with a committed implementer, since that\u0027s what\u0027s been missing.
