Looks like the massive breakage on this patch is due to https://github.com/tox-dev/tox/issues/2811, which appeared in tox 4.1.2.  My theory is that it\u0027s unrelated to the basepython removal; i suspect that previous patches were using tox\u003e4,\u003c4.1.2, and this patch was the first to hit issue #2811.
