For\nfilesystem-backed backends (the remotefs family, e.g. NFS) the\nreturned path is an image *file*, and when that file is a qcow2\ncontainer the raw dd corrupts it:\n\n- NFS with nfs_qcow2_volumes\u003dTrue: dd copies the qcow2 container\n  bytes capped at the volume\u0027s nominal size; a fully allocated\n  container is larger than the virtual size, so its trailing\n  clusters/metadata are truncated.\n- raw source to qcow2 destination (e.g. LVM to NFS): raw bytes\n  overwrite the destination file while Cinder metadata still says\n  qcow2, so later attaches misinterpret the volume.\n- qcow2 source to raw destination (e.g. NFS to LVM): the qcow2\n  container itself lands on the block device instead of the guest\n  data.\n\nRoute these copies through an in-place \u0027qemu-img convert -n\u0027, which\nrewrites every virtual-disk block while preserving the destination\u0027s\ncontainer structure (including a qcow2 file\u0027s backing chain). The\nimage format is taken from the connection info, which only the\nremotefs-family drivers populate, so block-device backends keep the\nexisting dd path unchanged.
