But, we dropped down the worker count from 8 before because it was causing a lot of issues by generating too much load on the dsvm node. So we just want to be careful when we bump things up.\n\nAlso fwiw, if you\u0027re just trying to get a better worker balance I\u0027d suggest looking at improving the testr scheduler instead. Since we are preseeding testr with results from previous runs it should be trying to do a better job of optimizing the partitions using that timing data. This just throws a different seed into the monkey sort. It might make things slightly better on exactly the test set we\u0027ve got, but as that changes (up / down / skips) then everything is out of whack again. Plus it increases the potential peak load of the systems, which are currently hitting at load average of 9 or 10 regularly. We found previously that when we go above that things start breaking under stress.\n\nThere are 2 real solutions to worker imbalance.\n\n1) actually do the work that mtreinish is doing to use the timing database to see the runs. This will level things out and you won\u0027t get the crazy spikes.\n\n2) integrate class level skipping into testr discovery. Part of the current imbalance comes from testr doing a discovery, binning everything together, then a bunch of test classes yelling \u0027surprise! we don\u0027t want to run!\u0027 Which some tests can\u0027t figure out they can\u0027t run for reals until probing something, there should be a way to skip in discovery the service based tests.
