Like just a week or so ago we had it changing the way it dealt with projects with toml files (https://discuss.python.org/t/pip-19-1-and-installing-in-editable-mode-with-pyproject-toml/1553) which then got reverted in pip and now, I don\u0027t know, I haven\u0027t kept up -- but this is the type of thing to keep CI going you need to either pin to earlier versions or install the latest version for.  Even though Fedora might get it fixed in a few days, nobody wants to wait that long when they\u0027ve got stuff to merge (and forget about LTS distros where you\u0027re talking months to get a fix in...)\n\nI *get* that the package pinning is odd and breaks puppet/ansible assumptions. If a job needs these tools, it can have them, but it needs to specifically mention that in its definition.\n\nOne adulterated image cannot be repaired, but one that is in clean/supported mode, can be upgraded.\n\nIn fact the main point here was related to stuff like\na) creating a symlink for python executable, which is known to be again a well known PEP. This must be avoided, as we want to catch bugs caused by call of \"python\" on distros without such exec.\n\nb) Python2 installation should not be forced on images that use natively python3. Again, installing it can hide other bugs.\n\nc) We are missing to spot bugs like there is no pip/virtualenv on py3 distros, exec being called pip3 and virtualenv-3.
