You can save images in Cloud X which are not necessarily in a format which is bootable in Cloud X. (Maybe two clouds are federated, maybe you just want to backup your image.)

So, even if 'qcow2' is the native format, I may want my 'vhd' to stay a 'vhd' (if the operator allows that).

Is that something we're allowing for?
is without requiring the user to pass this information over. It makes it easier to reason about.

The target_* fields as they are expressed in the spec require the user to have knowledge about things users normally don't care about. I said normally as, like you said, there could be a case where a user might want the images to stay as-is.

I believe that shouldn't be part of this spec just like conversion isn't. I'd like us to reduce the number of required fields from users, especially in this new endpoint so that we can evolve from a minimum starting point.

I don't think client side conversion has been discussed. If we ever consider that, I don't think it should be in glanceclient. There are enough tools out there to do that.

Hope this makes sense.
is without requiring the user to pass this information over. There may be no spare disk partition to use for performing conversions.

(Being able to deploy Glance without having to worry about predicting space for local disk use makes the service really operator friendly.)

Has client-side conversion been discussed at all?
0c8bbfa77f8f7cdb3f5c269c3d0e39d016374a05"}]}
