Use of batch migrations allows us to run test migrations on SQLite. My uninformed guess is that glance contributors have either (a) not been using auto-generation functionality of alembic or (b) have been modifying the auto-generated migrations to make use of batch mode. This helps avoid the latter and allows for the former.\n\nfwim, this is again here mainly so that migrations in glance will work like migrations everywhere else.
