The existence of the affiliation diversity requirement implies that it will have to be enforced at some point, so we might as well face up to it and enforce it now.\n\nIf a current member wants to resign to make room for an affiliated elected person who would otherwise be disqualified, I think we should respect that.  It\u0027s not unfair to the people who voted for the current member; the current member was elected to use their best judgement in serving on the TC, and if this is what they decide to do, their voters will respect them for that.\n\nIf a newly-elected but not yet ratified person wants to withdraw, we should respect that as well.  It\u0027s not a secret that the TC has an affiliation diversity requirement, so as far as the voters go, they should be aware that it\u0027s always possible that a situation could arise where the top choices cannot all be seated because of the affiliation diversity requirement.\n\nThe above two situations show community spiritedness and I applaud such people and wish them luck in the next election.  I would also count the community as lucky to have such people as its members.\n\nIf neither of the above situations obtain, then the TC is faced with the decision of how to do the disqualification.  I don\u0027t see that waiving the requirement buys us much.  If affiliation diversity is an important value, then we should recognize it as such and take the unpleasant action necessary to enforce it.
