In the former case (which is the majority of cases), the event will be dropped as it's very much likely the instance no longer exists in nova by the time the event is received. This is actually similar to VIF_UNPLUGGED event, which would be dropped by nova due to unknown instance.

This is also the main reason that I didn't put the two patches as dependent to each other.
I998b6bb80cc0a81d665b61b8c4a424d7219c666f. Can you point to the log where Nova throws exception? Searching the strings vif-unplugged and vif-deleted in this log: http://logs.openstack.org/66/178666/7/check/check-tempest-dsvm-neutron-full/6cf0279/logs/screen-n-api.txt.gz

Not intended to introduce extra noise, though. As commented earlier, dropping the event cannot be avoided in the case that Nova deletes the port as a result of deleting the instance.

I have been thinking how to avoid this given the same API is used to delete a port by both the user and Nova. But given that it doesn't seem to be possible to differentiate between the two cases in Neutron, Neutron sends the event whenever a port is deleted. Any idea?
6575db592c92791a51540134192bc86465940283"}]}
