And if it actually changes, it might be a nightmarish bug to catch.

> the tests I have already added would fail

@Terry, the unit tests from test_idlutils do not cover the OVS lib case, so it only leaves 'test_delete_one_of_many_ports' where ports are added in the natural order, so I don't think it somehow tests the ordering.

I'd agree that we probably can't reliably test the ordering returned by OVS lib. But at least it's worth leaving a note in the code.

Also, I've run your test with 'x in set(list)' approach [1]. Of cause it is somewhat slower than bisect, but still 20 times faster than original 'in' and does not rely on OVS lib behaviour. If the behavior changes, the tests I have already added would fail. I see tests in the OVS tree ensuring that sorting of all of the atomic types works and modifying one of the OVSDB IDL tests in the OVS tree to change the order of a stored array did not affect whether the test passed. They could not easily change this behavior without breaking lots of dependent code.

Ideally, instead of just returning sorted() results everywhere in the Python OVS library, it would use one of the many sorted containers modules available and then we'd just use 'in' and be done with it. But that is a pretty huge change and is unlikely to happen anytime soon.
The Python OVS library returns lists in sorted order.
