As mentioned on the mailing lists there are at least 3 high level usage patterns for hooks, and notifications will only ever cover one of them - triggering external actions asynchronously. People who have hooks that trigger synchronous external actions, or that make synchronous changes to the internal Nova operation will not be able to use notifications. As such telling them to suggest enhancements to notifications in Newton is not applicable. This should make it clear that some people will actually have to accept that their use case will not be supported.
