this earlier today, he suggested we check the block migration flag in https://github.com/openstack/nova/blob/f5c9ebd56075f8eb04f9f0e683f85bacdcd68c38/nova/virt/libvirt/driver.py#L5868 to see if it was going to do tunneling and if so, don't pass migrate_disks to migrateToURI3.

After looking at _live_migration_copy_disk_paths closer I see it's not just BDMs that it's processing, but it uses the bdm device name list to filter out disks from the guest, so I'm not sure if we should just not return any device_names from that method if we're doing tunneling or just not the BDM ones.

That's also confused by the pre-migration check here:

https://github.com/openstack/nova/blob/f5c9ebd56075f8eb04f9f0e683f85bacdcd68c38/nova/virt/libvirt/driver.py#L5360

Where if you have BDMs but libvirt<1.2.17 it fails - the note says you can't do that in tunneled mode either, but doesn't check for it.
Timofey The job failed setting up NFS.

One thing about checking the flag in _live_migration_copy_disk_paths would be we could avoid the roundtrip call to the DB to get the BDMs for the instance, so there could be a performance optimization. So basically if we're tunneling, don't get the BDMs or generate the device_names list, and if that list is empty (or None), don't set the migrate_disks entry in params.

It all gets a bit tightly-coupled, which is unfortunate.
3231bb95ac822bc275aa048121364eb4a82089f7"}]}
