If that future usage is getting the service type from the user, we're subject to misspellings etc. If it's relying on a newly-minted service type, it could be that the local copy of the STA data in os-service-types needs a refresh. (Hopefully we don't merge that patch before STA itself is updated.)

In the spirit of not trying to anticipate the future, I could just leave that error check out of get_ksa_adapter. Future-bug would get a cryptic exception (about None not being a valid conf group, perhaps).
ac5d6d983397d07d5cfafadbf60260cc0506be40"}],"nova/image/glance.py":
from a dev perspective it would honestly be nice if I could pass 'image' instead of 'glance'. The worst thing that would happen (if multiple threads reach L1304 simultaneously) is that we instantiate ServiceTypes multiple times and then throw all but one of them away. As long as we're not going to network that's cheap and pretty harmless. In that case I would add a comment to warn future me against that issue if we wind up needing to do the network path.

Or I could initialize _SERVICE_TYPES at the top of the file; but then it gets done at import time. Which is fine unless the consumer of nova.utils never calls get_ksa_adapter.

Or I could add an extra "if _SERVICE_TYPES is None" above the lock line, which would avoid the extraneous locking after initial setup, but looks kinda icky.

So, including leaving the existing code, that's four options.
