a request from nova-scheduler to placement for allocation\ncandidates with $flavor.vcpu \u0027PCPU\u0027 inventory. Similarly, booting an\ninstance with \u0027hw:cpu_thread_policy\u003disolate\u0027 will result in a request\nfor allocation candidates with \u0027HW_CPU_HYPERTHREADING\u003dforbidden\u0027, i.e.\nhosts without hyperthreading. This has been the case since the\ncpu-resources feature was implemented in Train. However, as part of that\nwork and to enable upgrades from hosts that predated Train, we also make\na second request for candidates with $flavor.vcpu \u0027VCPU\u0027 inventory. The\nidea behind this is that old compute nodes would only report \u0027VCPU\u0027 and\nshould be useable, and any new compute nodes that got caught up in this\nsecond request could never actually be scheduled to since there wouldn\u0027t\nbe enough cores from \u0027ComputeNode.numa_topology.cells.[*].pcpuset\u0027\navailable to schedule to, resulting in rejection by the\n\u0027NUMATopologyFilter\u0027. However, if a host was rejected in the first\nquery because it reported the \u0027HW_CPU_HYPERTHREADING\u0027 trait, it could\nget picked up by the second query and would happily be scheduled to,\nresulting in an instance consuming \u0027VCPU\u0027 inventory from a host that\nproperly supported \u0027PCPU\u0027 inventory.\n\nThe solution is simply, though also a huge hack. If we detect that the\nhost is using new style configuration and should be able to report\n\u0027PCPU\u0027, check if the instance asked for no hyperthreading and whether\nthe host has it.
