On the other hand it 'fixes' a bug [1], but based on the discussion on IRC it is not a real bug, but a misunderstanding of the existing behaviour. nevertheless, also based on the IRC discussion, it probably beneficial to operators probably to 'fix' the current behaviour.

anyway, as i wrote on IRC as well: in general, we should not accept feature backports to stable branches, but there can be exceptions IF stable maintainers agree to backport this anyway, as it improves usability for operators and helps to avoid to commit the same mistake.

besides, this feature was introduced in a backport-compatible manner, meaning, it has a new config option which needs to be set if someone wants the new behaviour, hence, it does not change the default way of operation, or cause any issue on existing deployments when they upgrade.

as i wrote on IRC, i'm not happy with backporting this, but if the team grant exception to this and we are sure we don't introduce regression, then I'm not against.

+1: this is a clean cherry pick at least ;)

[1] https://bugs.launchpad.net/nova/+bug/1939869
2b6aa37645c14b341549ac5f0396bf5c45c74dc1"}]}
