On a live deployment this hid two cinder-backup bugs: the privsep\nfailure caused by os-brick missing DAC_READ_SEARCH (1010827), and an\nexception in the RPC handler that left every backup in \u0027creating\u0027. The\ntraceback oslo.messaging logs for the latter,\n\n  ERROR oslo_messaging.rpc.server Exception during message handling\n\nwas nowhere in the logs, and neither were the os_brick and oslo.privsep\nerrors for the former.\n\nIn logging.conf only the service logger, e.g. cinder, has a handler.\nEvery other logger (oslo_messaging, oslo.privsep, os_brick,\nglance_store, keystoneauth, sqlalchemy, ...) propagates to the root\nlogger, whose only handler is the NullHandler. With log_config_append\nset, oslo.log just loads the file with fileConfig, so its\ndefault_log_levels do not apply either.\n\nRoot logged to stdout once (639711) and went back to null (751896)\nbecause the service\u0027s messages were then logged twice: its logger\nwrites to stdout and also propagates to root.\n\nGive the root logger the stdout handler, still at WARNING, and set\npropagate \u003d 0 on the service loggers, and on neutron_taas, so their\nmessages are written once, by their own handler. INFO from other\nlibraries is still dropped, which is quieter than oslo.log\u0027s own\ndefault_log_levels.\nThe nova os.brick logger is left alone here, its qualname matches no\nlogger and is fixed separately. This applies to every chart whose\nroot logger used the null handler; tempest\u0027s logging is set up\ndifferently, and cloudkitty, octavia and trove already log root to\nstdout.\n\nChecked by rendering logging.conf for cinder, glance, keystone,\nneutron and nova with helm and loading it with oslo.log 8.3.2\u0027s\nlog_config_append path: a WARNING from os_brick, an ERROR from\noslo.privsep and oslo.messaging\u0027s exception with traceback now show\nup, the service\u0027s INFO and WARNING lines appear once, and INFO from\nother libraries is still dropped.
