Flake8/pep8/pycodestyle is really a coding style linter, making sure code conforms to a certain set of coding guidelines. Pylint goes farther than that and actually does static analysis to look for coding errors with variables being hidden or undeclared and other logic problems. So ideally, I think there is room for both.\n\nThat said, we haven\u0027t been able to find a good way to get attention those pylint issues. Way back, the pylint job was voting and we would see if there were problems very clearly. Due to so many gotchas with how it does the linting, there are problems it highlights that we are forced to ignore. So the compromise was to make this a non-voting job that only checks on files that are modified. But that results in any errors reported just being ignored.\n\nIt may make sense to keep the tox target for this, but remove the zuul job. That way, when someone actually cares to look at things, they can run the job locally and inspect the issues reported to see if there is anything that should be fixed. And we would free up some gate resources for jobs that are actually preventing issues from being
