And since this was an area with a sensitive bug, I would like to see it improved.

First off, preverify_ok doesn't need to be compared to another int in order to be evaluated. Several alternatives would work (just not 'is True'). Secondly, saying 'preverify_ok is True' is not an implicit cast. An implicit cast to python truthiness would actually work fine here. As would an explicit cast. Finally, nobody reading the code by itself will know that we used to be using 'is True', so the comment will just seem like a non sequitur.

For context, here's a brief demo

$ python
Python 2.7.3 (default, Nov  1 2012, 13:53:22)
[GCC 4.2.1 Compatible Apple Clang 4.1 ((tags/Apple/clang-421.11.66))] on darwin
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> 1 is True
False
>>> 1 == True
True
>>> bool(1)
True
>>> if 1:
...     print "Lookin' good!"
...
Lookin' good!
>>>

Its a bit of a wart that the pyOpenSSL code is passing through C-style int booleans to python, so I'd strongly encourage a change here that would work even if they "fixed" that behavior.
