It doesn't make any sense to me to keep the current Caracal EOM date. the usual way (since first the Extended Maintenance, later Unmaintained phase were introduced) was to propose the planned EOL date to approximately 3 cycles later, which is always around the release date of N+3 release. earlier when i pointed out we should move it like a constant {N+3 release date} + X weeks people were reluctant to do that as "we don't want to say that stable supported phase is longer than 3 cycles", but as i said, no one will deal with preparing final releases and EOL'ing around the date of the coordinated new release. I personally do not feel that 4 weeks makes such a difference in any way, but it clearly a better timing in my opinion, so that teams (who did not prepare already to the transition can start their preparation right after the release and things have 4 weeks to settle... (okay, i know, that there are always people who leaves things to the day of transition, but that's another story...))

Adding 3 cycles as **estimated** EOM/EOL date and then moving it some weeks later when we see the future release date, gives the sense to consumers that "okay, this new stable release will be supported like 3 cycles / one and a half year or so" so they CAN prepare their upgrades based on that (ideal world, i know). if we "give" them extra 4 weeks (which is not a must as we don't even have a rule to make a cycle 26 weeks long everytime, we just usually propose it around that length, this is also another story...) that doesn't change things that much and we change it when we are near the transition date (~5 months from now).

I understand your point, but i don't think this is worth the fuss and argue about it. but maybe it's just me.

(another option could be to plan the 2026.1 release date - thus 2026.1 cycle length basically - so that it gonna be 4 weeks earlier than the EOL date of 2024.2 Dalmation, but that would result a 21-22 weeks long cycle. another funny choice)
