Any container with objects still in it isn\u0027t deleted. So\nwe can just change the _get_alternate_object_stats method.\n\nAs this is a matter of stats the basic premise for this method is that we get\nstats depending on the db_state. Which can be in one of 3 states:\n  1. UNSHARDED: There is only the original container db\n                (without an epoch in the name).\n    - In this case we should just look at the local object table for stats.\n  2. SHARDED: There are 2 databases, the old expiring database and a fresh new\n              one.\n    - Defer to the old retiring database for answers.\n  3. SHARDED: There is only a sharded container, one with an epoch.\n    - It\u0027s sharded, and if a root defer to what the shards have told it.\n\nHowever, because we live in an eventually consistent world, there is a chance\nthat an UNSHARDED db_state container might have synced with a replica and\ngrabbed all the sharding metadata. In this case the UNSHARDED container is\njust waiting to shard.\nWe can check the own_shard_range (OSR) of a container, and if it exists then\nwe can make further decisions. Namely, if the OSR is in the SHARDED state\nthen there are shards out there responsible for a more up-to-date view of\nworld. If this happens they stick around and\nnever get moved to the sharding state.\n\nTo get around this, we just need is_deleted to take a little more state\ninto account. Any container with objects still in it isn\u0027t deleted. So\nwe can just change the _get_alternate_object_stats method.\n\nAs this is a matter of stats the basic premise for this method is that we get\nstats depending on the db_state. Which can be in one of 3 states:\n  1. UNSHARDED: There is only the original container db\n                (without an epoch in the name).\n    - In this case we should just look at the local object table for stats.\n  2. SHARDED: There are 2 databases, the old expiring database and a fresh new\n              one.\n    - Defer to the old retiring database for answers.\n  3. SHARDED: There is only a sharded container, one with an epoch.\n    - It\u0027s sharded, and if a root defer to what the shards have told it.\n\nHowever, because we live in an eventually consistent world, there is a chance\nthat an UNSHARDED db_state container might have synced with a replica and\ngrabbed all the sharding metadata. In this case the UNSHARDED container is\njust waiting to shard.\nWe can check the own_shard_range (OSR) of a container, and if it exists then\nwe can make further decisions. Namely, if the OSR is in the SHARDED state\nthen there are shards out there responsible for a more up-to-date view of\nworld.
